Facts about Word Families

A word family is a group of words that have the same ending. For example, all the words ending with the letters –ump. Word families are used to get children to grasp the pronunciation of numerous words at once. By just substituting the beginning letter or letters of a word, the word changes. The approach of using word families to teach or improve reading skills is very effective.
